Fencing Competitions
Some of our club members have competed at regional and national level and the club can help support those wishing to try. Competition can be great for building not only your fencing skills, but also your patience, mental strength, and a sense of achievement. But, it’s not just individual competitions, the Cadet Winton Cup for instance – a yearly regional competition for under 17s – is a chance to meet fellow fencers from across the region and compete together. What we would recommend is that you speak to Tom as well as our members who have recently competed, as they can fill you in, share experiences, etc., on what to expect! Plus, check out Our Crusaders page for pictures of competitions undertaken by club members.
Our Crusaders in the 2024 Yorkshire Team for Cadet Winton, 21st-22nd Dec. 2024, Bromsgrove School, West Midlands.
Fin, (sabre; standing far left); Tristan, (mens epee team captain; back row, dead centre);
Maya (ladies foil team captain; back row, third in from the right) and Tom (foil team manager; kneeling front right).
After deciding to take the plunge, it’s always best to start small, so for juniors, there is the regular Youth Series, taking place roughly 3 times a year. There are competitions for all weapons and the best place to find what’s on across the UK is to check out British Fencing's Event Zone for competitions & courses throughout the year. Yorkshire Fencing regularly post/promote regional events via their Facebook page as well as Crusaders own Facebook page. Aside from that, some juniors may also wish to look at the following: sites:
-
Leon Paul Junior Series – held across the country for all age groups under 17, for all weapons; and
-
Elite Epee – as the name suggests, this caters for epee only, but all ages from under 10s to veterans.
If you want to follow how club members are doing at events, Fencing Time Live – is the world’s leading platform for hosting fencing tournament live results, both national and international.
